  2. The 95 anniversary of the Canadian Expeditionary Force’s victory at Vimy Ridge was held on Monday, April the 9 at the City of Abbotsford’s War Memorial located on Veterans Way.
The Ceremony which took the form of a Candlelight Vigil was organized and hosted by Branch 15 of The Royal Canadian Legion.
Members of the Federal, Provincial and Local Government were on hand as well as representatives of the Canadian Armed Forces, The Royal Canadian Legion, Matsqui Unit 315 of the Anavets, Abbotsford City Police, Abbotsford Fire Dept., First Responders (Para Medics) and members of the general public.
Colour Guards of the Royal Canadian Legion, Abbotsford Police, Abbotsford Fire Dept., and 861 Silver Fox Squadron of the Air Cadets provided a brilliant flash of colour on this sombre occasion. The band of 861 Silver Fox Squadron provided the music as well as the bugler for the Last Post and the piper for the Lament.
Some fifty plus candles were lit and placed by representatives of the Governments attending, by Service personnel and Ex-Service groups, and the general public which included honoured guests Mr and Mrs Bason whose son Colin was killed while serving in Afghanistan.
Also in attendance were members of the public who had lost family members in the battle, the reading of letters written by the soldiers to their families and loved ones prior to the battle expressing their feelings left many moved by the occasion.
Representing Matsqui Unit 315 was President Andy Gagnon who can be seen above placing a candle on behalf of our unit. Also in attendance were Bernice Gagnon, Len and Mavis Payne, Herta Krause and Al Anderson.
